Hey there, I’m james golding. I’m an endurance cyclist and world record holder.
In 2024 I plan to become the first British athlete to win the world’s toughest bike race, the Race Across America (RAAM).
Some might say that’s a bold statement, audacious perhaps, but my confidence is born from experience, vision, commitment, teamwork and most of all reflection. Since I was first diagnosed with cancer ten years ago I have come to believe anything is possible and that – one step at a time – we are all capable of achieving anything we put our minds to.
“THE ONLY TIME
YOU’RE FAILING IS
WHEN YOU STOP TRYING”
In the twelve years since that first cancer diagnosis I have recovered from cancer twice, I have discovered cycling, competed in 21 multi day events, and I am the first British person to hold the Guinness Seven Day World record for distance cycled. I got married, had two kids, raised over £3 million for charity, and used my experience to inspire others through public speaking, school visits and one-to-one sessions with people who need my help. I was awarded regional winner of Pride of Birmingham and short listed for the Pride Of Britain national award.
After all of that, the most important thing I’ve learned is that there’s no such thing as failure. Now I’m going to win the race across America, raise money for charity and inspire our next generation to realise that anything is possible – one step at a time.
